Suzukaze Air-Conditioned Cushion from Kuchofuku
Written by: Michael Keferl on August 2, 2008 at 12:03 am | In DIGITAL LIFE | 1 CommentKuchofuku, maker of the famous air-conditioned bed and clothing, has now released its latest product for personal cooling. The Suzukaze (product page) is an air-conditioned cushion that is designed to keep you slightly elevated on your chair to bring cool air in under you.

Discomfort during hot weather occurs with accumulating moisture on the seat, so Suzukaze helps dissipate this moisture and keep the seat fresh. Best of all, it takes very little energy. One month of use, for eight hours a day, will cost a mere five cents with Eneloop batteries!

There are three versions of the Suzukaze available. The Standard is…well…the basic model, battery-powered with the Super Spacer material inside. The High Grade version uses more durable dual-layer Super Spacer and takes the power saving to another level with a touch sensitive switch that turns the fan on/of depending on whether you’re sitting there or not.

For those on the road, there’s even a model made purely for use in the car that connects to the car’s power adapter. With gas prices the way they are, the power savings of less A/C use will pay for this device in no time.
In the big picture, it may be economical and energy-friendly to always deal with climate matters on a personal level anyway. This is still the beginning, but would it not be preferable to be able to control our own comfort level with our clothing or furniture, rather than have one centralized source for everyone in the room?

Kuchofuku air-conditioned bed and clothing
Written by: Michael Keferl on June 28, 2007 at 6:49 pm | In DIGITAL LIFE | 48 CommentsThe traditional Japanese way to stay cool in the summer months is to lay on a flexible pad of bamboo tiles, but we’ve never quite gotten used to the hard feeling. Enter Kuchofuku, now releasing it’s 2007 series of air-conditioned lifestyle products including a bed! This is on top of its already popular USB shirt, pants, and jacket offerings. By taking in air at the head end of the mattress, the dual fans at the foot pull it through a soft membrane that expands to become an air-cushion, bringing cool air in past your head and through the bed.

Using a standard AC adapter, the 2.4kg (5.3lb) Kuchofuku Air-conditioned Bed is extremely ecological, and the maker claims that with everyday use for eight hours the bed will use less than ¥30 ($.24) for the entire month! It also rolls up into the included bag for compact storage.

In the air-conditioned clothing arena, Kuchofuku has a wide range of products including jackets, pants, white shirts (for both men and women), and workshirts with dual fans that create constant air flow. Combined with the bed, it’s now possible to spend nearly every second of your day being fanned with cool air for those hot and humid Japanese summers.
