A look at eMobile, the EM-ONE, and the coming upheaval in Japan
Written by: Michael Keferl on March 22, 2007 at 2:22 am | In DIGITAL LIFE |Our friend Gerhard Fasol over at Eurotechnology Japan is predicting major disruptions for mobile data carriers in Japan due to the presence of eMobile. March 31st is going to bring some major changes when eMobile brings it’s unlimited high-speed (3.6mbps HSPDA) service for a flat monthly rate of ¥4980 ($43). The current mobile data leader Willcom offers a flat-rate service of 128kbps for ¥9000 ($77). As Gerhard points out, eMobiles service is 30 times the speed at half the price. Below is an exlusive look at eMobile’s EM-ONE PDA which will work with the new data service and has wi-fi, digital tv, a 4.1 inch Sharp display, a camera, and Windows Mobile 5.0.

Because you’ll be able to use it for computers and PDAs (and since mobile operators here don’t offer flat-rate data) it has the potential to completely change communications here. You’ll most likely be able to use Skype or other free services, and with the astronomical prices for mobile here, we may just jump on as well.
