Well, it seems that Radiohead is indeed going to push its new album In Rainbows specifically to the Japanese market. We discussed this previously, mentioning that the average Japanese person has no idea how to access the album due to its English instructions and web-only availability.

The notice below explains that the album will be released soon, and that downloaders can choose their own price for it. However, according to Impress Watch, there is a price cap of ¥9,999 ($92).

There’s also a Japanese page for the album with a countdown to the Japanese availability on December 3rd. In Rainbows will also be available as a download for DoCoMo users via QR code.

Proprietary mobile music services are the main obstacle to mass distribution of this kind of content, rendering even online downloads useless for the many Japanese who use their phones to listen to music.
