Cosmetic Parlor: For Sweet Girls - Cute and kinda scary
Written by: Michael Keferl on January 2, 2007 at 12:27 pm | In Fashion & Lifestyle Trends, Marketing & Ad Trends |Cosmetic Parlor (For sweet girls) is a Japanese cosmetics shop for girls who, by Western standards, have very little business putting on makeup. However, being in Japan, all we can think is “kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiii!”. Yes, yes, it’s very cute. Girls can pop into the parlor, check out the products, and have consultations/makeovers from the staff, which is great for girls who want to be cute and grown-up at the same time.

We happened to find a catalog from the shop at the train station, and were absolutely blown away by the prices, perhaps even more than we were at the concept itself! These young girls are paying big-girl prices for cosmetics and fragrances that are quite surprising. 5300 Yen ($45) for perfume and 2100 ($18) for lipstick seems to be a tad expensive for kids. The “Christmas Set” below costs JPY 12,600 ($107)!

Cosmetic Parlor is from the Narumiya family of brands that typically cater to young, cutesy tastes. The shops have been around for a while, but the ramifications will stay forever with a young generation that now can’t stop buying cosmetics for the rest of their lives. Enjoy!
